The word “BIS” have been very common in these days in Logistics trade, the “BIS” is actually a short form of ” Bereau of Indian standards” which is the managed by “The national standards body of India”
What is it actually do?
Well the BIS department monitor and certify the certain goods which are going to be used by direct or indirect by Indian consumers, the major products are household articles which are whether manufactured in India or imported from overseas countries , The BIS department check the product and certify that manufacturer, product model if they have fulfilled the rules and regulations as per the standards marked by BIS department, and only after that they are allowed to supply or import in Indian market.

Well there were no much products included and governed by the BIS department, but nowadays after the government of India is very active about the the safety for citizens of India and so there are many updates about new products included in the mandatory registration of BIS, you can find the details of product as per link here. https://vircheet.com/bis-list-of-946-items-pdf/ and BIS-list-of-946-items also u can check this too https://bis.gov.in/index.php/product-certification/product-specific-guideline/product-manuals/
Who and How to get The BIS registration ?
This is a very common question, because most of time the new manufacturers or importers of BIS mandatory products are not knowing that who has to be fulfilled this process & how,
Well would like to provide you the details answer here, The registration of BIS is mandatory by each model of each product, suppose if a manufacturer or importer is dealing in same product with different models then the each model should be tested and certified by the BIS, however any one can apply in single applications with multiple models of same product category, The BIS registration no is issued with single registration no as per product wise and the details of model no can be mentioned or added in future with same registration certificate after fulfillment of the procedures of BIS.
The said registration is valid most of for 2years and can be renewed also, there are different registrations required for different kind of products but not for different models of each products.
The testing of products & its BIS registration is part of manufacturer, whether its in India or overseas, If the overseas manufacturer want to sell his goods which required the standards of the said goods tested by BIS then its their responsibility to get the registration done.
However they are free to authorize their Indian representative to take care of this process on their behalf and avoid huge cost of travel to India for the said process.
Can the manufacturer allowed to sell the goods to any one if it is registered with BIS?
Yes the manufacturer of the goods are free to sell any one India and any one can buy or import the said goods if its have trade mark of BIS. the rule is for product and not for its seller or buyer.
Only the goods having proper BIS marking with valid registration copy of BIS regarding the imported product and its models if any there.
