How to Import Samples or Gifts ? in India, What is the procedures and limitations? what are the duty structure and how to clear from customs?
Hello users, If you are looking for information related to the procedures and conditions regarding import or export of free samples and gifts in India from other countries, then you have reached the right place.
Import of samples shall be governed by para 2.65 of Handbook of Procedures.
There are no authorization (import license or regulatory certificate and like wise) shall be required for Import of bonafide technical and trade samples of items restricted in ITC (HS) except vegetable seeds, bees and new drugs. Samples of tea not exceeding Rs.2000 (CIF, cost-invoice value+insurance+sea or air freight) in one consignment shall be allowed without an Authorization by any person connected with Tea industry.
Duty free import of samples up to Rs.3,00,000 for all exporters shall be allowed as per terms and conditions of Customs Notification.
Import of articles as sample for testing purpose are allowed, subject to same is not restricted/prohibited or regulated by Indian tariff classification. for further information please comment below.
Goods including free samples may be exported / imported by airfreight or through foreign post office or through courier, as per Customs procedure.
Import of Gifts
Import of gifts shall be ‘free’ where such goods are otherwise freely importable under ITC (HS). In other cases, such imports shall be permitted against an authorization issued by DGFT
Export of Gifts
Goods including edible items, of value not exceeding Rs.5,00,000/- in a licensing year, may be exported as a gift. However, items mentioned as restricted for exports in ITC (HS) shall not be exported as a gift, without an Authorization.
Export of jewelry through Foreign Post Office including via Speed Post is allowed. The jewelry parcel shall not exceed 20 kgs by weight.
