A homeowner’s eligibility for a free insulation grant is determined by two factors: whether they are likely to qualify for an insulation grant and whether their property is suitable for insulation installation.

If a homeowner receives a qualifying benefit, the government may be willing to help them insulate their home. Homeowners who receive income-related benefits, disability-related benefits, or tax credits may be eligible for grants to cover the entire cost of the process. It cannot be a council/house association property, and it must be owned or rented from a private landlord. Cavity wall and loft insulation are normally covered by 100 percent of the grant and are free under the ECO scheme.

To be eligible for an insulation allowance, a person must either own or rent their home from a private landlord. Tenants of Housing Associations and Councils are only eligible for the award if they own at least 50% of the home they live in.

The insulation funds are all subject to a no-obligation survey, which will be offered for free in most situations. However, depending on the energy efficiency or size of the property is insulated, households may be asked to pay a small fee.
