Scrap import in India permitted through Kamarajar Port Limited formerly known as Ennore Port as per P.N. no. 15/2015-2020 issued by DGFT
The Government of India has permitted the Import of Metal Scrap through Kamarajar Port Limited formerly known as Ennore Port as per P.N. no. 15/2015-2020 issued by DGFT date 20.07.2021, Earlier there were 17 ports of in India were allowed for Import of Metal scraps, and after adding Kamarajar Port Limited in that list, now there are total 18 ports now are allowed for import of Metal scrap.
The Kamarjar port is a1st Indian port which is working as public company. The Govt. of India has declared Kamarajar Port as the 12th Major Port of India.
The port was declared as a major port under the Indian Ports Act, 1908 in March 1999 and incorporated as Ennore Port Limited under the Companies Act, 1956 in October 1999. The Kamarajar Port is the only corporatized major port and is registered as a company.
This port is developed under Sagarmala project Programme, this is a government of India’s initiative to develop the strength of the Indian logistics sector. This programme will help to unlock the potential of waterways and the coastline to reduce the infrastructural investments to meet these targets.
The Kamarajar port will be very useful for export of Iron ores, coal and automobile companies and with this permission to import metal scrap through Kamarajar port ltd. will help metal industries to set new factories in That area and will increase the production of metal products. Since India is larges steel and metal exporter, this step will increase the strength of manufacturing and export in world wide.
